Save the date for the 2006 Northeast Transportation and Wildlife Conference (NTWC).
The conference will take place September 11, 12, and 13 at the Summit Lodge and Conference Center at the Sunday River Resort complex in Newry (Bethel) Maine. The theme is to review and build upon what we did in 2004 and to look to the future. Canvassing the states, we have these as topics
-Work Done on the 2004 goals to date
-Goals for the future
-Statewide Wildlife Conservation Plans- presentation by the states' Departments of Natural Resources with an emphasis on transportation issues
-Fish are animals too- talk on Aquatic Organism Passage
-FHWA would like to be a presenter to talk about the
soon-to-be-released Eco-Logical: An Ecosystem Approach to
Developing Infrastructure Projects.
-Beyond our borders- What is happening in Canada and states that did not participate in 2004
We are looking at other topics to make a more interesting conference. We have had some interest in other topics
Signing, lighting, or other large animal crash reduction strategies- any success stories
Endangered Species- Section 7- strategies or case histories for compliance
Related theme- safe passage of small mammal such as New England Cottontail
Herptile passage- Getting turtles safely across roads- Maine will soon have to more aggressively address passing rare reptiles such as Blanding's turtles
More speakers dealing with Fish (or aquatic organism) Passage through drainage structures

regional basis- also, feel free to suggest others that we have not listed
