As some of you know, the California Roadkill Observation System (http://wildlifecrossing.net/california) is starting a special study to measure rates of carcass disappearance from the roadway. After less than 24 hours, we received 23 enthusiastic replies from people wanting to participate. Agency and public volunteer-scientists will record when roadkill is lost from the roadside. These measurements will allow us to estimate the total rate of roadkill on state roads and highways. This is a huge advance for roadkill studies in the state and because we are the largest project of its kind in the country, this is huge for the US too. Thanks to everyone who joined in and if you want to join in, feel free to email me (fmshilling@ucdavis.edu)
