New Federal Wildlife Crossing Funds: $8 Million to WVC Hotspot near Santa Barbara
Caltrans District 5 and regional stakeholders have been concerned about the number of wild animals being killed on US 101 through Gaviota Pass, Santa Barbara County. Our roadkill hotspots report has identified the areas a regional hotspot for large wildlife collisions. This week the Gaviota stakeholders got the good news that Caltrans received a $8 million federal grant from the "Wildlife Crossing Pilot Program" of the IIJA to retrofit an existing culvert to create a large wildlife crossing with associated fencing.
